About CredAbility

Disability Direct, in collaboration with disabled people in Nottingham, has developed the CredAbility quality assurance system for the social care marketplace. The aim of CredAbility is to provide peace of mind for customers using Direct Payments to purchase goods and services from independent providers. So whether you are employing a Personal Assistant or working with a Broker to create a support plan you can have confidence in the person you are working with if they are accredited through the CredAbility scheme.

CredAbility for the Customer

• The assurance that the people providing the goods and services you are buying have been accredited by an independent third party

• Confidence that the services you purchase are delivered by individuals with the appropriate skills and level of competence

• The ability to participate in quality assurance by providing feedback about the goods and services you purchase

• The ability to share your experiences of purchasing goods and services with other customers

Accreditation and Quality Assurance

Accreditation is designed to allow providers of goods and services an opportunity to demonstrate to disabled and older people that they are suitably experienced and qualified to deliver the services they advertise.  It is a simple yet robust process whereby providers complete a self-assessment and provide supporting evidence to a central team for verification.  Once all checks are completed the provider will be accredited.  Evidence required will be in scale to the type and size of goods and services being provided.  This will enable providers of all sizes to gain an equal footing on the accreditation process.

But accreditation is just the start of the process.  In order for providers to maintain the CredAbility mark they must demonstrate their continued commitment to providing quality services to disabled and older people.  The key to this is customer feedback.  By letting us know about your experience with service providers, you as the customer will continue to play an important role in the quality assurance system.  Your feedback will encourage good providers to keep up with best practice but it will also make us aware of problems that need to be addressed and serve as a warning to other potential customers.

Throughout this website you will see that we refer to disabled people - we feel that it is important just to outline what we mean by disabled people.

For us, disability is not about what condition a person may or may not have, what age they are, what benefits they receive, or what payments they get from the council.

For us, disability is about the needs people have because of all of the above - this includes carers, friends, professionals, people with visual impairments, hearing impairments, mental health issues - this list goes on but it really is not that important to us.

Meet Jules Sebelin our Quality Assurance Manager

Jules brings her most recent experience assessing and developing quality systems for social enterprise advisers into the social care marketplace.  With a comprehensive background in group development support, business planning and management, quality assurance and market identification Jules is well placed to ensure that the CredAbility system is both robust and fit for purpose across a broad range of provider organisations.  Jules leads a small team of independent assessors and would be happy to discuss what accreditation can do for your business.  Jules also works continuously with disabled and older people to monitor the service and to ensure that it is working well for them as the primary stakeholders.

This website, and Credability, is for anyone that finds it useful.
